Life After All is a Great Balancing Act

I think there is a very simple way we can bring our lives into harmonious happiness, and the secret is all about bringing our lives into balance.

We have so many things vying for or time and attention. We are pulled, tugged, moved, drawn, plucked, stretched, torn, contended for, hauled and dragged in any and ever direction. Look here! Look there! Buy me! Buy them! Do that! Move this! Be this! Change it all! Want more! Go!

I've gotta get up; kids up; brush teeth; breakfast; off to school; off to work; fix this problem; now this problem; make the boss happy; school calls, someone is sick; leave work; kid; doctor; pharmacy; home; soup; more kids; dinner; dog; spouse; laundry; toys; yelling; bills; tv; homework; mean neighbor; spills; until its bed time again and its quiet in the house but you still have ringing in your ears. And you sit there and feel unhappy or incomplete. That book you wanted to read is still on the shelf. My spouse is unhappy because I don't
even have the energy to talk an eighth of how we used to when it was just us...

So how do you know if your life is just busy and full vs out of balance? Simply ask yourself are you happy or are you unhappy at the end of the day in
the quietness of your own thoughts? Do you feel content and at peace? Or do you feel weighed down and weary?

If your life is unbalanced, it can totally be fung-shuied, but only if you desire it. Nothing is going to change until you decide it's time and then the tricky part, make the time to actually do it!

I've learned that life can be broken up into four parts, and bringing these four into harmony will add greatly to your inner peace and happiness. Mental, Physical, Spiritual, Social.

Pull out a pen and paper and write down all the 150,000 tasks you will need to complete today, or is it 500,000 or 1 million things for some of you?? Then make four categories of tasks: mental, physical,
spiritual, and social.
For example:
Paperwork ---->mental
Pick up kids ---->physical
Make this silly list ---->spiritual
Talk to your neighbor ---->social

You may notice that your list is lacking in one or maybe even two categories.

Now, make a list of all you need to accomplish tomorrow and again categorize. Try to think of ways you can balance your day between the four. Simplify or breakdown the tasks at hand and look for possibilities. Maybe if social is lacking, instead of eating lunch alone in your office, seek out a fellow co-worker to eat with and get to know them. Or if you are at home, think of a neighbor you could call and invite over for a few minutes or even stop by and visit them.

Maybe if spiritual is out of balance, find 15 minutes in your day to mediate or read the scriptures, and don't tell me there isn't time!! There is! Get creative! Whatever the spiritual acivity it should be relaxing, uplifting and edifying to your spirit. It should also allow for your mind to refocus and unwind.

The possibilities are endless and the trick again is to get creative. It may take some adjusting and refocusing. When it comes to balancing your day to day life, give it some time and give it some patience and I promise that it will increase the peace in your life and when you are inwardly balanced that will roll over into your family and work and all aspects of everything else. Like the good doctor says, "Life after all is a great balancing act!" - Dr. Suess

My feelings about the subject and how it can increase the happiness in your life comes from the example of the Saviors life. "And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature (mental & physical) and in favor with God and man (spiritual and social)." - Luke 2:52

Ever since I read the verse I've made it a life long motto, "balance in all things."

  1. Thanks Sister Jensen. I agree with the balancing act. I tried reading the scriptures everyday right after lunch and realized that I couldn't quite focus. I have found that reading in the first few minutes after getting ready for the day is much more productive for my schedule.
